The Houston Astros got a superb performance from pitcher Freddy Peralta, but the New York Mets still won the game, 5-4. Peralta threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball. New York reliever Codi Heuer picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Adam Morgan shouldered the loss. Robert Suarez earned the save for New York, his 6th.
Had Mike Trout not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Trout hit a grand slam home run. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Mets.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Houston manager Bryan Rekar.
The Mets, at 15-19, sit in last place in the American League Northeast Division.
