Dodgers Mow Down Pirates, 10-4
|
Behind a solid performance from right fielder Alex Verdugo, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 10-4. Verdugo was 4-5 with 4 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Dodgers. Max Fried, the winning pitcher, is now 7-1. He went 5.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 2. The win puts Los Angeles at 35-21 this season.
With Los Angeles leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Verdugo hit a 2-run single off Pittsburgh hurler Nick Nelson. It was the 37th hit of the season for Verdugo and put his team ahead, 3-0.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Verdugo, "and then get after it again."
