Acuna Jr. Slams 3 Homers for Red Sox
Tuesday, May 21st , 2024
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.

It happened at Colorado Field today, as Ronald Acuna Jr. of the Boston Red Sox unloaded three times against the Colorado Rockies but was still bumped off 14-13 by the Rockies.

"We were lucky to win today," said Colorado skipper Joel Hinds. "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."

For the game, the Boston left fielder had 6 hits in 6 at-bats, scored 4 times, and drove in 7.

Acuna Jr. spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.

"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."

Ronald Acuna Jr. tripled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Drew Rucinski in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Drew Rucinski in the 5th, hit an RBI triple in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Justin Martinez in the 9th.

This season Acuna Jr. has hit at a .419 clip with 53 RBIs, 21 home runs and 56 runs scored. He has played in 45 games.
