Maldonado Makes it Official, Will Retire
Tuesday, May 7th , 2024
His Lehigh Valley IronPigs teammates were not terribly surprised when Martin Maldonado announced his retirement today.

In a low-key affair, Maldonado explained his rationale.

"My aches and pains have caught up with me. They don't seem to go away like they used to when I was a kid," he said. "I'm spending more and more time in the trainer's room and less and less time preparing for my next game. I've come to a realization that I've done what I can in this game and spending more time playing baseball is just stealing from my future self."

When asked, the team manager noted "Martin has always been an honest man and when he says he's done, well, he's done."

In his career, Maldonado has hit .170 with 86 hits, 11 home runs, 47 RBIs and scored 58 runs.
