MILESTONE WATCH, 2057 EDITION

The calendar just flipped to 2057, which means spring training and a new CBA season are right around the corner. Let’s take a look at some milestone statistical numbers that we could see reached this year. All stats refer to regular season major league totals across all three leagues.

Starting Pitching

No pitcher has tallied 100 career wins yet in CBA 2.0, but Galveston’s DANIEL CORDOVA has an outside shot to become the first this year. The legendary lefty is sitting at 83 wins. Not far behind him are Toronto’s CHUCK ARMBRUSTER (79), and Phoenix’s LUIS MARTINEZ (77). I’m guessing that nobody hits the century mark until 2058. 200 career starts will be an impressive total, and JUAN “RASH” GONZALEZ of Salt Lake is on track to become the first to do so, as his 186 leads all active players. Baltimore’s IVAN LUNA (182), and Phoenix’s RAFAEL ROBLEDO (180) aren’t far behind.

Relief Pitching

Salt Lake’s PAT ROBERTS has led his league in saves three years running and is the CBA’s all-time leader with 168. Toronto’s XAVIER OWENS should become the second reliever to eclipse 150 saves, as he’s sitting on 148. Baltimore’s Matt Bennett is, somewhat surprisingly, the only CBA pitcher to amass over 50 holds, with 70. Denver’s ROARK BRUNT will look to become the second (49). Bennett is also poised to become the second pitcher ever to appear in 400 games (398). Owens has a huge lead in that category with his 454 outings.

Batting

The 1,000 Hit Club is currently home to just seven players: Galveston’s DAVID “LOONEY TUNES” BENNETT (1,184), JOSE “HAT” ALVAREZ of Miami (1,082), free agent DON MARTIN (1,071), Chicago’s DAVE “DINGUS” DE ANDA (1,024), Houston’s SAM “MORIARITY” PEREZ (1,015), Mexico City’s CESAR “CASH” VELASQUEZ (1,005), and Salt Lake’s RIDLEY “SOONER” HILL (1,003). Poised to join them soon are New Orleans’ ANDRES COLIN (994) and Charlotte’s STACEY HEIJMAN (992).

The fraternity of sluggers with 200 career homers is even more exclusive, with just a pair of members: Minnesota’s RICO SANTELLAN (211) and San Diego’s JEREMY NADEAU (210). Closest to joining them are the aforementioned Sam Perez (193), Mexico City’s JUAN PADILLA (176), and Las Vegas’ MATT SLEETER (172).
