by C.C. McCandless

The 2060 season is underway, so let’s take a look at a handful of players that could reach some statistical milestones this season. We’ll begin with hitters.

Galveston’s DAVID BENNETT is the only player in CBA history to reach the 1500 hit plateau so far (1630), but he could soon have company. Detroit’s DAVE DE ANDA (1448) and Boston’s RICKY LOPEZ (1440) are next in line. Miami’s JOSE ALVAREZ (1394), Toronto’s CESAR VELASQUEZ (1394) and Las Vegas’ POWELL IDDIOLS (1392) could reach 1400 as soon as this week.

Houston veteran slugger SAM PEREZ is on target to become the first player with 250 career homers (241). His teammate, MATT SLEETER, sits right behind him (239), while Carolina’s JORDAN MERLY is a distant third (218). Philly’s DUSTYN BUCKLEY (211) and Galveston’s BO RAFFERTY (204) round out the current 200 Dinger Club. Poised to join their company soon are Cincy’s DANNY DAVIS (195) and Cleveland’s BEN WARD (193).

Perez, Bennett, Sleeter, and Houston’s JOSE HERNANDEZ are the only hitters with 700 career RBI. Toronto’s RAUL VILLALBA (698) should be next to join them, with Buckley (689), Detroit’s DONNY BUIJS (675), and Cleveland veteran PRESTON FREEMAN (673) not far behind.

The Mythics’ Velasquez was the first player to reach 400 career steals, and with his next theft, he’ll be at an even 500. Iddiols is second (356), while Phoenix’s PHIL WHEELER (314), Cleveland’s ASJITA PANDIT (313), and Chicago’s JOSE VILLA (313) are the others above 300. The Gremlins’ Rafferty (289) looks like he’ll be next, and Miami’s VICTOR MAPULA (244), Salt Lake City’s EVAN OBERHELMAN (240), and new Moondogs acquisition BARRY PFEFFER (238) could all reach 250 this season.
