Governor Kirkpatrick Awards Hartford Star Key to the State

HARTFORD – The Harpoon’s star and captain Carlos Bocanegra made national news this past August after heroically saving several of his neighbors from their burning house. Even after being injured going above and beyond the call, Bocanegra, who has since been appropriately nicknamed, “Hero”, continued to bat against the flames, carrying out the homeowner’s young daughter and cat. When questioned by one of our reporters at the scene afterwards, “Hero” modestly stated that he was, “Just happy to be there in time”.

Raymond Kirkpatrick, former star player and current governor of the great state provided Bocanegra with the symbolic “Key to the State” at a press conference this past week. Kirkpatrick, a Connecticut native who made the majority of his career starts with the ‘Poons’s rival, the Brooklyn Patsies, jokingly stated that this would be “the biggest victory a Harpoon would see this season!”, which received a reverberating groan from the crowd, clearly unappreciative of his humor. “Hero” humbly accepted the award, thanking God for putting him there in time to help.

Bocanegra finished the season with 31 home runs, a 264 batting average, and a .368 on-base percentage, which earned him his second consecutive All-Star appearance and a Silver Slugger award at center field. Going into next season, the team’s captain looks towards providing a spark on offense, and utilizing his plug-and-play defensive capabilities, allowing him to fill in wherever the team needs him. It is rumored that the Harpoons will immediately look to extend him as soon as he concludes his fourth year of service time, as per the most recent RLB CBA.
