Trade Deadline Overview
As the CBA has recently passed the trade deadline, we’re now free to dissect the deals that were made. We’ll be looking at teams, trades, and grading transactions. Note that, in order to be counted as a deadline deal, the trade needs to have occurred within the last 7 days of the deadline (July 22nd to July 29th).

The Teams
===
Arizona Thunderbirds – 3 Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
C Alejandro Huizar | 2022 2nd Round |
2022 4th Round | |
Loans | 2022 5th Round |
C Pat Brown (EOS) | 2022 6th Round |
RP Aaron Lee (EOS) | Prospects |
RP Jose Gallegas (EOS) | 2B David Aranda (#9) |
They did a couple of good trades here. They needed a catcher, and they not only got one, they got two to fill in, including Huizar who will anchor the backstop for years. The Lee/Gallegas trade interests me because of what they gave up. Hoping that they get hot for the rest of the season to power them to a PL berth is what led them to plug that deal, but the fact remains that they just aren’t that good.
Atlanta Swarm – 3 Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 2nd Round Pick | 2022 1st Round |
2022 3rd Round Pick | 2023 2nd Round |
Loans | Prospects |
OF Miguel Gallegos (2) | OF Ignacio Sanchez |
3B Ernie Reeder (EOS) | |
RP Carlos Moya (3) | Loans |
2B Josh Saso (EOS) |
I don’t mind these deals. They didn’t give up too much to get some great players, and they wound up improving the league’s fourth worst defense. The Moya loan intrigues me in the fact that he was worth a second rounder, but Atlanta may just be able to get the most out of his great stuff.
Austin Outlaws – No Moves
Austin was one of the clubs that needed to swing some trades at the deadline in order to push for a PL berth. With no moves being made, they are content sitting still and garnering that Silver League start next year. Do they need to upgrade their pitching? Of course. Still, they’ve got some pitchers in their system that they hope will be able to fill in without needing to trade for anybody.
Bay Area Pandas – Three Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 3rd Round | SP Dustin Easterling |
2022 5th Round | |
Loans | |
Prospects | RP Mike Vasquez (EOS) |
CL Jaden Cooper (DEV-A) | 3B Randy Christenson (2) |
C Jason Robinson (YA) |
Working by the book for a rebuilder, the Pandas loaned away two players and traded another to get a few picks and prospects. Nothing major, but it should help their rebuilding stage and hopefully a few promotions down the road.
Boston Rogers – No Moves
Boston could have bought at the deadline to try to get into the Silver League, or they could have sold with Jeremy England perhaps being the hottest pitcher right now, and had they loaned him there would have been a ransom of return. Boston fans are hoping that they made the right move for a Silver League push by not trading away their future.
(Editors Note: But let’s be real, how could they not have won when they received Michael as their new owner.)
Brooklyn Bulldogs – Four Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 2nd Round | 2022 2nd Rounder |
2022 3rd Round | |
2022 4th Round | Prospects |
2023 2nd Round | SS Rich Herrick (YA) |
Prospects | Loans |
SS Devon Friend (DEV-B) | SP Antonio Avila (EOS) |
2B Andrew Kearns (DEV-B) | OF Ivan Quijije (EOS) |
RP Aaron Lee (EOS) | |
Players | RP Jose Gallegas (EOS) |
SP Gene Bryen (RES) | |
OF Jesse Lange (RES) |
One of the true winners of the deadline, they picked up great spots in the draft, good prospects and players, and they didn’t give up too much. They threw in the towel for the Silver League, though, with their two star players (Avila and Quijije) loaned away. They’ll be back next year, so Brooklyn may earn the first Bronze to Silver promotion in the CBA.
Carolina Aces – No Moves
Why do you need to make moves when you’re in first? Their pythag. record states otherwise, but with the third most runs scored and a pitching staff that you are (sometimes) able to count on, they should be fine without having to trade for anybody. Their starting pitching could have used some work, but they aren’t ranked among the worst in that category.
Chicago Gale – Three Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 9th Round | Prospects |
2023 2nd Round | C Arturo Saucedo (DEV-A) |
Loans | Loans |
2B Josh Saso (EOS) | RP Carlos Moya (3) |
OF John Bale (EOS) | 3B Ernie Reeder (EOS) |
Cash – $15,000 |
The Gale truly didn’t do anything to help them push at the deadline. They traded Reeder for Saso, hoping that would give them a boost, but Bale won’t do much for them. Perhaps Silver means Gold in Chicago this year?
Cincinnati Royals – Three Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
Loans | 2022 4th Round |
RP Mike Vasquez (EOS) | 2022 5th Round |
RP Jerry Werts (2) | 2022 7th Round |
RP Phillip Gales (2) | 2023 1st Round |
SP Mike Dillard (EOS) |
Cincinnati’s minor league system is bad, and their system will more than likely stay among the worst in the following years with their strategy of trade picks for loans. Yes, I hear you, nobody wants to start in the Bronze League. Their team is good enough to dig themselves out of the hole they’re in, and the first round pick headed to Detroit probably should still be in the Royal’s grasps.
DC Eagles – Six Moves
2022 1st Round | 2022 5th Round |
2022 2nd Round | 2022 8th Round |
2022 2nd Round | |
2022 3rd Round | Loans |
2B Jon Wagner (EOS) | |
Prospects | |
C Willie Meza (DEV-A) | Players |
SS Steve Temple (DEV-A) | SP Manuel Vigil |
OF Jesse Lange | |
Players | OF Melvin Tineo |
SP Tony Juarez | SS Marcos Flores |
Prospects | |
3B Matt Copeland (DEV-A)
Cash – $25,000 |
My friend, this is a true fire sale. Trading away four CBA level players, loaning a star player, trading cash, everything. Something to note is that they used what they gained from one trade to trade in the next one, which is why the list winds up much shorter than it actually should be. An interesting trade was the Tony Juarez deal, which could be described as a buyers trade, not a sellers trade. I guess that the cost was good enough that they decided it would be worth the deal.
Dallas Devils – No Moves
Dallas is in desperate need for pitching, which they didn’t address at the deadline. They’re currently eighth in the standings, so they’re hoping the second ranked offense can carry them through.
Denver Wolves – One Move
Incoming | Leaving |
Loan | Prospects |
OF Greg Pacheco (EOS) | C Gary George (DEV-A) |
RP Seth Comer (YA) |
A simple loan from Denver shows that they want to reach Silver, but they won’t give up much to get it. Their expected record sets them in Silver, so they’re hoping that this deal will allow them to get over the hurdle.
Detroit Motors – Five Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2023 1st Round | 2022 4th Round |
2022 8th Round | |
Loans | 2023 5th Round |
SP David McDaniel (EOS)
2B Miguel Texidor (EOS) | Prospects |
OF Ivan Quijije (EOS) | 1B Mario Rosales (DEV-B) |
RF Jose Garcia (DEV-A) | |
Players | SS/3B Jose Salazar (DEV-A) |
SP Hector Tovar | RP Charlie Sendejas (DEV-B) |
SP Leonel Vallejo | 2B Mike Rowe (DEV-B) |
SP Jason Holmes (YA) | |
SS Devon Friend (DEV-B)
2B Andrew Kearns (DEV-B)
Loans | |
RP Jerry Werts (2) | |
RP Phillip Gales (2) | |
Players | |
SP Gene Bryen (RES) | |
RP Ryan Monti (RES) | |
RP Hector Rico (ML) |
With Mr. Isoldmywholefarmsystem at the head of the ship, they proceeded to get a great starter in Hector Tovar. They sold off their excess, netting them a first round pick. Does that make it worth the sell off?
Florida Giants – Two Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
Players | 2022 3rd Round |
RP Adelkria Apio | 2023 3rd Round |
SP Manuel Vigil | |
Prospects | |
Cash – $25,000 | C Chris Carlisle (YA) |
Two underrated trades by Florida. They got Apio, a top reliever for peanuts, and Vigil as a great single season replacement at a low price. A pretty good deadline.
Great Lakes Monsters – Three Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 8th Round | 2022 2nd Round |
2022 5th Round | |
Players | 2022 8th Round |
CL Edgar Lugo | 2023 4th Round |
Loans | Prospects |
SS Joe Barton (EOS) | 3B Jeff Sayre (YA) |
2B Jon Wagner (EOS) | 3B Bill Stigall (DEV-A) |
They fixed the middle of the infield, upgraded their hitting, and got a closer to boot. They got them for an amazingly low price. Great trades.
Houston Moondogs – No Moves
They could have sold with Chris House as a great trade piece. They’re aiming for Silver, but their nucleus will be gone in a few years. This was a missed opportunity for Houston.
Indianapolis Hawks – Two Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
Loan | 2022 3rd Round |
3B Randy Christenson (2) | 2023 2nd Round |
SP Antonio Avila (EOS) | |
Prospects | |
CL Jaden Cooper (DEV-A)
C Jason Robinson (YA) |
Perhaps an overpay on both trades, but Indi got what they needed. For a team looking to hit Premier League, these were deals that needed to get done.
Los Angeles Chilis – Five Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 1st Round | 2022 9th Round |
2022 2nd Round | |
2022 8th Round | Players |

SP Jason Holmes (YA) | |
C Arturo Saucedo (DEV-A)
Loans | |
3B Edgar Sanchez (RES) – Must be played at 3B
Cash – $15,000 |
They traded Kamar Alston, which was the one person they needed to move this deadline. They got a slew of prospects and picks, making this a great deadline for LA.
Mexico City Chupacabras – One Move
Incoming | Leaving |
Players | 2022 1st Round |
SP Kamar Alston | 2022 2nd Round |
2023 2nd Round | |
Prospects | 2023 4th Round |
OF Orlando Burgueno (DEV-B)
Prospects | |
RP Luis Aguilera (RES) | |
2B Alberto Villegas (RES)
3B Jeff Kurtz (DEV-A) |
An intersting trade for Kamar Alston, many considering it an overpay. Their farm system is headed by top prospects, but it shallows out towards the bottom. They’ve basically got no picks, setting them up for a 3 year gap once their current players retire and their second round come up – which gives them time to move from PL to BL. Still, can you put a price on moving up a league?
Miami Warriors – Four Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 1st Round | 2022 2nd Round |
2022 4th Round | 2022 3rd Round |
2022 6th Round | |
2023 4th Round | Loans |
OF Miguel Gallegos (2) | |
Prospects | C Angel Rivas (EOS) |
OF Ignacio Sanchez (RES) | SS Joe Barton (EOS) |
2B David Aranda (DEV-A)
Players | |
C Alejandro Huizar |
They definitely could have received more for what they traded away, only truly netting a single first round pick. They traded away their second and third round picks, and fans in Miami were left wondering after the week.
Midwest Plainsmen – One Move
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 10th Round | |
Loan | |
3B Edgar Sanchez (RES) – Must play at third base. |
Playing experience?
New York Roar – No Moves
New York was put in the spot of buy or sell – and they did neither. Currently in the middle of the pack, they are content to stay there and restock for a Premier League run.
Oklahoma Mammoths – One Move
Incoming | Leaving |
Players | 2022 3rd Round |
SS Marcos Flores | |
Prospects | |
C Willie Meza (DEV-A) | |
SS Steve Temple (DEV-A) |
They upgraded their shortstop position by trading for Marcos Flores from DC, and that was really the only move they needed to make.
Philadelphia Liberty – 5 Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 5th Round Pick | 2022 1st Round |
2022 6th Round Pick | 2022 2nd Round |
2022 7th Round Pick | 2022 3rd Round |
2022 4th Round | |
Players | |
SP Dustin Easterling | Players |
LF Alejandro Lugo | OF Chris Moore (RES) |
SS Alvin Veasley (RES) | |
Loans: | |
3B Dan Manes (EOS) | Prospects |
CL Carlos Rodriguez (EOS) | OF Kevin Simmons (RES) |
RP Ruben Rodriguez (EOS) | RP Josh Diehl (DEV-B) |
C Angel Rivas (EOS) |
Trading away the future for the now, Philadelphia is going all in on this inaugural season to get a Premier League berth straight away. They’ll have no picks for the first four rounds and they traded away two of their better prospects, so the farm system continues to get bleaker.
Portland Axemen – No Moves
Undergoing some ownership issues, Portland stayed content at the deadline. Their injured middle infield could have used some upgrade, but we understand that deals were difficult to make during this period of time.
Sacramento Golden Bears – No Moves
Could have bought on some loans to assure a spot in the Silver League, especially working to better the offense. They’re 28th in batting average and needed a bat, even if just for the short term. With some of the loans getting handed out, they could have easily traded for a bat. A missed opportunity for Sacramento.
Salt Lake City Snappers – No Moves
They needed pitching. Needed. Pitching. They didn’t even trade for a loan. This team could find itself slipping to Bronze despite having the leagues best offense because of their staff. This should ring alarm bells in SLC.
San Diego Skylarks – Two Moves
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 1st Round | 2022 5th Round |
2022 3rd Round | 2022 7th Round |
2022 5th Round | |
Players | |
Prospects | OF Alejandro Lugo |
3B Danny Copeland (DEV-A) | SP Tony Juarez |
SS Rich Herrick (YA) | |
OF Kevin Simmons (RES) | |
RP Josh Diehl (DEV-B) |
We feel as though they sold low on Lugo and Juarez, but for a team strapped of prospects and in a rebuilding mode, these were deals that needed to happen. They move two of their players they needed to move, but perhaps they would have been better off loaning them instead of trading.
Wichita Weasels – Two Deals
Incoming | Leaving |
2022 4th Round | Players |
2022 5th Round | SP Hector Tovar |
CL Edgar Lugo | |
Prospects | SP Leonel Vallejo |
1B Mario Rosales (DEV-B)
RF Jose Garcia (DEV-A) | |
SS Jose Salazar (DEV-A)

3B Bill Stigall (DEV-A)
3B Jeff Sayre (DEV-A) | |

RP Hector Rico |
They sold off on all their assets and gained a gigantic farm boost in the meantime. For any team that’s looking to rebuild, this should be a team to model after.
