Recent and Upcoming CBA Milestones

Heading full steam into the second half of 2024, it’s a good time to look at some CBA career milestones that have recently happened or are visible on the horizon. All stats are combined for season play at all major league levels, including the 162 game establishing season. In no particular order…

  • JAMIE “MACHINE” MALCHOW, pride of the Midwest Plainsmen, is the first batter in Championship Baseball Association history with 500 hits, reaching that esteemed mark on July 11 at Detroit. Sacramento’s Ralph “Milkman” Radney (489), Denver’s Mike “Dozer” Becklin (488), and Miami’s Miguel “Milksteak” Gallegos (483) should all reach that mark soon. This cements the longstanding CBA logic that if you want to be a “professional hitter,” you better have a nickname.
  • Dallas Devil KEITH BUSH became the first career 50 game winner on June 22 with a home victory against Midwest. Bush is the only pitcher thus far to eclipse 600 Ks, and he was also the first to 500, a club that teammate Chris “Irony” House and Arizona’s Adrian ”Deadshot” Owens (495 each) will soon join.
  • The 100-300 CLUB for mashers (100 HRs & 300 RBIs) has three recent inductees. Oklahoma’s BRAD SAYERS in the all-time leader in both categories, with 118 and 341 respectively. He is joined by Adam “Thumper” Borne of the team everybody loves to hate, who has logged an impressive 104 bombs and 316 ribbies to date. Chris “Cracker” Greenwell of the Philadelphia Liberty joined the fraternity just days ago with his 100th He added his 101st for good measure on 7/13, along with his 306 runs batted in to this point. Miami Warrior Chad Lynch could reach these milestones with one swing of the bat (99 and 299).
  • The aforementioned MIKE “DOZER” BECKLIN and JONATHAN BROYLES are in a sprint to become the first 300 run scorer in CBA history. Broyles, the Florida sensation with the league’s first big time free agent deal, held the lead (285) until a recent run of double-digit Wolves games put Becklin back ahead (288). With the way these two clubs have been plating runs, either or both could eclipse the mark next week. Miguel Gallegos (274), Atlanta’s Silver Slugger Shen Qi (272), and Sacramento’s reigning Silver League MVP, Jose “Buzzy” Rodriguez (272), aren’t far behind.
  • Buzzy is far and away the CBA leader in CAREER STEALS as he closes in on 200 (194). No other player has reached 140.
  • Mexico City’s TONY CARREON is the all-time saves leader (85) by a comfortable margin over the Swarm’s reliable stopper Jesus Gaytan (73).
  • Last, but certainly not least, we recognize the two IRON MEN of the CBA. In addition to being the league’s all-time longball leader, Mammoth Brad Sayers has never missed a game, including going the full 162 in the inaugural campaign. The only other player that can make that claim is MATT “COMET” HALEY, who has been in the Philadelphia Liberty lineup every time.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Chad Lynch was previously 1 HR and 1 RBI short of the 100-300 sluggers club, but a big week put him well over in both categories.

Ralph Radney crossed 500 hits in the first sim after I wrote this. Congrats, Milkman!
